Perhaps the biggest advantage of the Lorex security camera system is its simplicity. Combine the low price with the ease of setup and the high quality LW2701AC1 expansion camera, and you’ve got a recipe for a secure area with a minimum of fuss. It really is as simple as connecting a few parts together, choosing a good place in your house from which to monitor the camera feeds, and you’re done! I had a chance to try out the LW2702 recently, and the experience was excellent. There were only a couple small snags that I hit which ultimately kept this system from being perfect, but it’s such an excellent value for the money that I’m personally willing to overlook these minor quirks.
Two Camera Simplicity
No security camera system is going to be complete without easy to operate cameras that can be mounted without too much hassle. The build quality of the cameras is above average for a system at this price point, but they’re definitely not going to compete with the quality of one of the Defender systems, for example. The image quality on the cameras was acceptable but not amazing, more than sufficient for use during daytime in decent weather conditions. I wouldn’t hesitate to use the Lorex system in a home office to monitor the front or back door.
The included LCD was of surprisingly good quality, something I wouldn’t normally expect out of a pack-in like this. Generally, you need to supply your own monitor for security camera systems such as this one so this was a breath of fresh air. The size is fairly small at 7 inches, although I see this more as a strength than a weakness for the Lorex security camera. The small screen will fit really nicely on a desk in the office on a kitchen counter, perfect for monitoring anywhere in the house.
The recording software and hardware are actually built into the screen in this system, increasing the portable nature even further. Since you aren’t tethered to a wall (this is a wireless system, after all),you can just carry it around the house with you! The only limitation here will be the bandwidth of the wireless signal, but as long as the video feed is updating properly, you’re still in range of the wireless cameras.
Recording Media and Remote
This is not a complex,DVR-style system. These Lorex security systems are clearly designed for straightforward simplicity, and that shows through in their choice of recording media. Rather than needing a separate DVR box,the Lorex records to an SD card instead. The system includes a paltry 2GB card, but you can’t rightly expect much more at this low price point. Better to skimp on the pack-in accessories than on the core parts of the system! I would recommend picking up a 16GB SD card along with the system, itself.
Overall
While there’s certainly more to say about this slick, easy to use little system,I’ll leave that to the huge amount of positive Lorex security system reviews at Amazon.com!
